Choose an established fern with healthy roots. A struggling plant needs recovery before it needs to multiply.

Read the fern.

Some form divisible clumps. Some make plantlets. Spores are another route, but patience is part of the equipment.

Keep the roots close.

Prepare the pot before you divide. Handle gently and preserve a generous portion of roots with each section.

Let it settle.

Give new divisions sheltered, indirect light. Keep the medium evenly moist, with room for excess water to drain.
