A cyanotype afternoon with pressed seaweed, sunlight and a little patience. Leave with a small herbarium of the shore.

A contact print records what blocks the light. The seaweed becomes a pale silhouette; the paper around it becomes blue.

We’ll arrange pressed specimens on prepared paper, expose them to daylight, then rinse to reveal the image.

Use loose, collected material or prepared specimens. Leave living shore habitats intact.
Fine branches hold the light.

At the worktable

  1. Choose a specimen with space between its branches.
  2. Press it gently under a clear contact sheet.
  3. Expose, rinse, then watch the blue deepen as it dries.
